• 26th January 1950 – A constitution of 395 articles and 8 schedules came into effect.

Introduction

26th January rings a bell in every Indian heart and it wakes the very sensation of patriotism in every citizen of India.

The day is marked by the adoption of the constitution and it meant complete freedom from the British rule.

The last governor general of India, Lord Mountbatten had completed his role and left India.

The Drafting committee labored for 2 years 11 months and fabricated the Indian Constitution.

Every child in this country knows one fact about the constitution, which is, “It is the LONGEST constitution carrying 397 articles and 12 schedules which made India the LARGEST DEMOCRACY”.

Because, India is a big economy with people of many religion and languages, having such a vast constitution is not surprising.

History

The drafting committee was formed right after independence, because a nation needs a rule book so called constitution for it’s smooth functioning.

And it was followed by the presentation of the first draft on November 4th 1947.

So, after callous efforts put by the committee headed by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for 2 years and 11 months.

The 308 members of the Assembly signed 2 copies of the handwritten constitution on 24th January 1950.

So, with this came the another milestone in the making of the rule book of this great nation we are in today.

And the constitution came into effect officially on 26th January 1950.

Our history books have emphasized on the word ‘Purna swaraj’, because this concept is very dear for the people of this nation.

The ideal of Purna Swaraj held a lot of gravity and clout to the freedom fighters of India, because it was the right of every citizen of India and fighting for it was their birth right.

It meant as a very strong and clear document which reflected the entire Indian struggle. And it was also the source of confidence and determination for the people. 

This Purna Swaraj was attained completely on 26th January 1950.

On this day, the constitution became the voice of the nation, because it asserted the rights of every citizen and gave them the fruits of their freedom.

It talked about opportunities and growth of the nation. 

The Republic day calls every soul of the citizen and reminds it the love of it’s homeland and it’s devotion to its country.

It calls for the residents of the nation to understand the miracle of the Indian democracy.
